4 nights for 3 in charming Athens hotel
5* GrandeBretagne
5* GrandeBretagne
Athens is the perfect destination for a winter or spring short break, when the mild climate and world-class museums and archaeological sites are looking their best before the summer tourists arrive. In recent years Athens has also become one of Europe’s best destinations for dining, with a flourishing restaurant scene – from the traditional tavernas and coffee shops of the old quarter of Plaka, to the elegant restaurants of Kolonaki.
There is no doubt that the Grande Bretagne is the finest address in town. Perfectly located on Syntagma Square, overlooking the Greek Parliament and with commanding views over the city and the Acropolis beyond, it is a strategic position, within walking distance of many of the cultural highlights. The Temple of Olympian Zeus, Hadrian’s Arch and the Acropolis Museum are just 15 minutes’ walk away.
This landmark hotel opened its doors in 1872, and has remained the city’s most comfortable and stylish property ever since, with 320 opulent rooms with original artwork and antique furniture. All rooms are spacious and very well appointed, and some have views of the Acropolis (supplement on request). The public areas are both grand and inviting, from the elegant Winter Garden restaurant where lunch and dinner are served, to the atmospheric Alexander's Bar. The highlight for many guests though, is the fabulous GB Roof Garden Restaurant and Bar, located on the 8th floor, and offering panoramic views of The Acropolis and the Parthenon as well as Lycabettus Hill. There is also a spa with indoor swimming pool and a fitness centre, and in the summer months (usually from April onwards, subject to weather), the hotel has a fabulous rooftop swimming pool.
