Alistair recently returned from an incredible FAM trip to Sardinia, where he explored the breathtaking north east coast—home to crystal-clear waters, hidden coves, charming coastal towns, and luxurious resorts. From sampling local cuisine to soaking up the Mediterranean sun, he’s come back full of inspiration and expert tips for your next Sardinian getaway!
Journey there
Who did you fly with?
Easyjet
How was the journey?
All on time and quite painless
Did anything memorable happen?
Yes, I ended up in going through Gatwick in a wheelchair!!! (Long Story..)
Hotels
Where did you stay?
Hotel Rocce Sarde
Were there any special features?
There was a pool area and the hotel was surrounded by greenery.
What was your stay like? Did you enjoy it?
The hotel was nice, although quite basic, my room though had lovely views.
Any recommendations?
Ask for a room at the back of the hotel, best views.
Activities
Where did you go?
We toured the North East of Sardinia
What did you see/do?
We visited some quaint little villages, some stunning beaches, Porto Cervo, which is very expensive and is where all the luxury yachts dock in the summer. We also visited a winery and had a tour and tasting, and a traditional Sardinian lunch. We also visited Olbia and Alghero.
Did you learn any fun facts or see anything exciting?
Sardinia is the 2nd largest Island in the Mediterranean and is 50% forest, and they are big on Cork. In the photo below of the group on the beach - this is the beach that James Bond came out of the water in his white lotus in The Spy Who Loved Me.
What was the weather like?
Cold for the first couple of days, but after that the weather was mid 20s, but chilly in the evening.
Any recommendations?
Hire a car and explore at leisure, the roads are very good and very little road rage.
Food/Drinks
Did you go to any local restaurants/cafes?
Yes, one for a traditional Sardinian lunch and a local cafe for a snack and ice cream.
What did you enjoy eating/drinking?
I enjoyed all the food, not as much Pasta as I thought there would be.
Did you try any new dishes? What did you think of it?
Most of the food I had had before, but I still enjoyed it all.
Conclusion
Would you recommend this holiday and who to?
I would probably recommend to couples or explorers, family if they just wanted to stay around the hotel.
